And remember: the Good Book's good because the Good Book says it's good.

James Franco seduces himself

Yeah, if I was a girl, that would work on me.

Ian Welsh: Mindless obedience to bad law is what makes tyranny of any kind possible

What is Legal and What is Just Are Two Different Things  <Ian Welsh>
Just saying. A lot of people seem to have forgotten that.
While we’re at it, you either believe that human rights should be inalienable, or you don’t.  That doesn’t mean they can’t be taken away, it means that any time they are taken away it is automatically unjust.
Next: governments exist to serve the interests of their citizens.  Any government which exists for any other reason is illegitimate, and defacto tyrannical, no matter how many or how few kneecaps they are breaking.  The relationship is similiar to a fiduciary relationship, where the government has its powers only in order, and so long, as it is acting in the interests of of its citizens.

Day Five: Zappadan

From Zappa's first album, Freak Out: You're Probably Wondering Why I'm Here. 1966. RIP Frank Zappa. 12/21/40 - 12/4/93

Contains perhaps the best Zappa one-liner evah: 'I want to hear Caravan with a drum sola!'

Double hit of Freak Out below the fold.

Everybody who may puke if you see another TSA story: Raise your hand...

 OK. That would be everybody.

Noah, over there at DownWithTyranny explains why it isn't really about airports. It's about Nordstrom's.

1. Remember when the Patriot Act and illegal phone taps were a hot topic and all the righties were saying something along the lines of “What’s the big deal about them spying on us, if you have nothing to hide . . .” Hmmm. Am I to assume, now that the righties are screaming and belching fire about their rights, that they do have something to hide?

2. Seriously, though, this is the next stage in our world becoming the one that George Orwell depicted in 1984. The end result of that one was every citizen had a camera in their homes that watched them 24 hours a day. For now, it’s scanners at the airport. Next it will be at the stadium. As soon as there is a terror incident at a mall, you’ll need to be scanned if you want to get into Nordstrom’s. The fact that the scanners have little chance of stopping an attack means little when there’s a pile of money to be made scaring the public and selling Rube Goldberg devices. A cowed and compliant public is a nice additional bonus and just may be objective numero uno anyway.

Internets cannibilizing themselves over Julian Assange

The Internets and The Google have worked up a mighty lather over the Julian Assange arrest. And you're probably bored to tears hearing about it! For example, a man weighs in! To him, the charges against Julian Assange "have always seemed, if not false, lame." Whoa..False or lame, just pick! But then! Would you like to hear about how women should be judged by the company they keep—from the left? Eh? No. How about some Naomi Wolf trying on sarcasm? Prolly not!

Lovely memories. Past is present

Swiss harpist Andraes Vollenweider performs on what is perhaps the the most difficult Western instrument ever invented. From the album Down to the Moon. Moon Dance. 1986.

Double shot for more below the fold...
